Buddha Eden

This week we traveled to the east without leaving the west.

About 75 km north of Lisbon is a most curious place - the Bacalhôa Buddha Eden Garden. It is also known as the "Garden of Peace'. Built by businessman Joe Derardo, the garden is the size of more than 60 football fields and contains numerous reproductions of buddahs, terracotta statues, soldiers, pagodas, sculptures, and even contains a garden of African art and sculptures (among other things).

Berardo thought of the beautiful garden as a way of protesting the destruction of the Giant Buddhas of Bamyan, Afghanistan, which took place in the early 2000s.

Vineyards completely surround this beautiful garden.

What a fortunate find.
It was definitely worth the visit!👍
